Best Buy Customer Service Salesman

Sunday, Hubby and I had to go get his vest from work because he was going to work at another store. Since we had to make a trip across town we decided to stop at Best Buy because we are in search of a CD Player to hook up to his antiquated stereo system.  Now, I'm not putting down his stereo system I'm just saying it is older than most. Who owns a record player nowadays? Well his stereo includes one.

I don't go to Best Buy much. Hubby usually drops by sometimes to get certain things. He worked there for a short time before we met. Our experience with customer service has been less than satisfactory. I avoid it for the most part. I'll order online but otherwise, next to Lowe's and Walmart it is one of my least favorite places to go to. They're just big and I think it is so much extra walking.

Anyway, we were in the store looking for the CD player. After a few times up and down aisles I had enough and suggested to Hubby to ask someone. He said, "Nah!"

A young salesperson, who probably just graduated from high school,  finally walked up to us and asked if we needed help. Hubby walked away. I told the salesperson what we were looking for. He was showing us DVD players. Hubby walked back and explained to to him more and said that is not what he wanted.

What did he do? He haphazardly pointed in a general direction and said, "Over there." He then just walked away.

I was so shocked for a minute. "Really but what's over there and mimicked his asinine pointing," to no one in particular.  We had to laugh because it was ridiculous. We did walk in the general direction we were pointed to but there were just boom boxes.

Hubby said, "I told you. I never expect them to be able to help. Next time I'll listen or better yet just let him go without me.



It was so ridiculous I started giggling and kept doing my impression of the rep the rest of the day. We walked out with no purchases.

If Hubby had done that at his job he would have definitely been fired. I did email a comment about experience.

  1. I don't like Best Buy anyway, so I try not to go. That was definitely bad customer service, but I think it may have had a generational component to it. The younger people don't interact with people face to face these days as we did before there was a screen to always have in front of our face.

    1. That's what Hubby's view is also. He said they don't train them as they used to. I hope they don't work on commission!

  2. Shopping at Best Buy always depresses me. IT is a mess and they never have what I need.

    1. They seldom have what we need either. Hubby usually goes to see what they have and then he comes home and buys it online. I sure hope you don't shop often because wouldn't want you to be depressed. HUGS!

  3. I spend my days writing advice for small business and this goes against everything I've read--and everything I then put into the pieces I write. NO. Just no. The basic thing is that now that customers can buy items online, the one advantage brick-and-mortar shops have is that they can give customers an in-person experience. In other words, you go to Best Buy for advice. For that expert who can show you want to buy or at least greet you with a smile and point you in the right direction. Otherwise, customers will just buy it on Amazon and it'll show up on our front porches two days later. That's increasingly what I'm doing. Maybe not for major purchases, but for things like phone accessories and small electronics.

    1. In my experience Best Buy has not been all that beneficial for advice They did help with one thing through the years. I guess we got a good one that day. I agree with you. Thanks for dropping by.

  4. Have you tried Amazon? I rarely go to Best Buy, but it's not really because of the lackluster service; it's typically because I don't actually need anything from there. If I need a computer or a phone, I go to the Apple store. We don't have tvs, so we don't need DVD players and my husband was given a great music player for his graduation from college (more than) a few years ago. Anything else we buy online.

    I do have to say it does irritate me when my husband and I go shopping and, after we've been in the store for what feels like hours looking for something and he doesn't want to ask anyone. I can't even imagine what it must feel like when you ask someone against your husband's wishes and they are so unhelpful like that! Argh!

    1. Mandy, i am an Amazon Customer. However, hubby wanted to actually see it to determine if it would fit his stereo. I have to admit Hubby was correct about that one but he also didn't run into the ground that he was right.
